Brisbane Heat v Sydney Thunder

6.30pm In some piece of news, Thunder opener Sam Whiteman has been replaced by Lachlan Hearne in their squad. Whiteman has been deemed a potential close Covid contact, and so isn’t in the squad for today’s match.

He is into Thunder’s line-up for the contest today, and England’s Saqib Mahmood is totally focused on the task at hand: deliver for Thunder up front instead of having an eye on a potential Ashes place in the national side.

6.15pm It is No. 6 vs No. 7 tonight, and although there is time yet before things start unravelling for teams, both Heat and Thunder will want to climb up the ladder rather soon. So where do you see this one going?

The Thunder X-factor subs are Gurinder Sandhu and Lachlan Hearne, while Heat choose Liam Guthrie and Tom Cooper for the same.

Sydney Thunder: Hales, Gilkes, Jason Sangha, Billings (wk), Ross, Sams, Cutting, McAndrew, Green (capt), Mahmood, Tanveer Sangha

Brisbane Heat: Bryant, Lynn, Duckett, Heazlett, Abell, Peirson (capt, wk), Bazley, Bartlett, Steketee, Swepson, Mujeeb

5.57pm So news is that Brisbane Heat have won the bat flip and will bowl first.

Mustafa Moudi: “Lets begin the match by wishing a very happy birthday to Ricky Ponting – The Most Successful Captain in Cricket History (With most international Wins) and 4 ICC Titles to his name and The highest Run Scorer for Australia. Hope we see him Coaching Australia very Soon!!” — So why not hear something from someone who has faced some trauma from the man himself?

steve: “can we get through 2 heat v thunder games in a season without a strange incident? smoke from bushfires, then something else another season” — And this?

5.45pm Time for some bashing around; and so just about time for us to travel some thousand miles north-east from Adelaide to Brisbane. Here is Himanshu Agrawal starting the evening, with the energetic Peter Della Penna on his way soon.
